Team Mawson consists of 14 people who are currently living at Mawson Station in Antarctica. To give ourselves a goal through the coldest darkest month of winter we have decided to 'virtually' walk to the South Pole, 2500kms in 31 days. To make sure that we complete the walk we are raising money for AMRRIC.
Team Mawson has been joined by The Gumboot Ramblers from Macquarie Island. The Gumboot Ramblers consists of 10 people who are based on the Island for at least 12 months-starting this winter, Kim Kliska says "We are looking forward to fundraising in our gumboots on the green sponge this July!"
We also have been joined by Remediation Rampage from head office in Kingston. The remediation team work across Antarctica to reduce the footprint that we leave behind.
Team Mawson, The Gumboot Ramblers and Remediation Rampage have now been joined by The White Walkers from Casey Station and Team Davis from Davis Station.
Many members of the Mawson Station team have lived and worked in remote Australia and we understand the difference that organisations like AMRRIC can make to the lives of bush dogs.
On a personal level I have 2x desert dogs from central Australia, Harry and Missy have enriched our lives. They have their unique personalities, part cheeky dog part town dog because of were they were brought up. Like every-one they are shaped by their time in the remote parts of Australia.
AMRRIC are taking positive steps and working with communities to provide access to basic health services as well as community education.
